RDRC

Women and Child Development

The aim of this project is to offer employment opportunities for women seeking income generation. Initially, participants will undergo comprehensive training covering all aspects of tailoring, including paper cutting, cloth cutting, stitching, dress design, personality development, and etiquette. This six-month training program will be conducted at a centralized location in Ahmedabad.

Upon completion of the training, each trainee will receive a sewing machine free of cost. Additionally, trained women will be offered employment through a unique approach. The organization will establish a system whereby women requiring garment stitching services can receive them at their homes. Trained and well-mannered individuals will visit residences to take measurements and collect cloth. Furthermore, dress trials will be conducted at home, and the final garments will be delivered to their residences.

This innovative tailoring project has been implemented in various districts of Gujarat with support from the government and various funding agencies.

In Mandvi and Bhachau Talukas of District Kachchh, a Women’s Empowerment program was implemented, focusing on forming Self Help Groups (SHGs) comprised of selected women. Each member of these groups is provided with 2 buffaloes, resulting in a total of 771 women benefiting from the project. Additionally, women beneficiaries receive fodder for one month and a cattle shed equipped with storage for fodder.

To ensure the marketability of the produced milk, milk chilling plants have been established in both Talukas. Furthermore, milk collection centers have been set up in villages, with RDRC’s vehicles facilitating the transportation of milk to the chilling centers. This comprehensive approach aims to empower women economically and enhance their livelihood opportunities.

The Multi-Purpose Women’s Extension Centre, backed by the Commissioner of Women and Child Development Office in Gandhinagar, commenced its operations in 2006-07. Since its inception, the center has provided counseling and protection to numerous families and women, effectively addressing issues related to domestic violence.

Furthermore, the center conducts regular awareness activities focusing on combating harmful customs, promoting civic sense, and addressing issues such as child abuse and illiteracy. Through its multifaceted approach, the center plays a vital role in fostering women’s empowerment and societal well-being.

In the tribal villages of Limkheda Taluka, District Dahod, and Ahmedabad District, women have been equipped with valuable skills through training programs supported by the Gujarat State Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation. Additionally, these initiatives received endorsement and support from the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

RDRC identified the needs of rural and urban youth through comprehensive studies and subsequently conducted various skill development programs across different districts of Gujarat. Through these endeavors, RDRC aims to empower women and youth by providing them with the necessary skills to enhance their livelihood opportunities and contribute to economic development.

RDRC organized specialized camps for community engagement, including Education Awareness Camps, Cultural Programs, and Literacy Camps. These camps aimed to motivate individuals towards better education and foster an interest in learning. The themes of these camps revolved around encouraging people, particularly guardians, to prioritize and support girl child education. RDRC conducted these programs across various locations in Gujarat, specifically in the Mandvi and Naliya talukas of Kachchh district, with ongoing follow-up processes.

Throughout the implementation of these initiatives, RDRC received significant support from local communities, guardians, and teachers. This collaborative effort underscores the organization’s commitment to promoting education and facilitating positive change within the community.
